Wire Tower no.2

I've been slightly slacking on my blog lately but that's not really here nor there, I built a larger version of the chicken wire and thread tower mixing in blue thread as well I got some interesting photos from it. I plan on taking some more this evening concentrating on the shadows. This is to show the affect of light on the negative spaces. Anyway here are some pictures of the inside of the structure.

Alice Maher

Alice Maher is an irish artist who's work is very relevant to where I plan on going with my project, her work along with a little guidance from one of my tutors  has lead me to instead of just covering objects with something to render it useless but make it directly from that material. This ( I hope) will give me a better understanding of the material itself and allow me to fully explore the capabilities of it. I think this will give new life to my project, making more of a visual impact and an overall more interesting exploration of how we deal with different objects/ our space. Anyway less of my babbling here are some pretty pictures from the lady herself

this is a photo I took a while back and just re-discovered, I was walking through a wood out side of kilkenny and the lens on my camera fogged up, at the time I thought the photo came out pretty cool but now I find it much more interesting because of when I made my smoke box. The fog/smokey effect gives a whole new life to the photo but also made it useless in the primary purpose of photography, capturing and recording the present efficiently.
A photographer I find incredibly interesting and to have such a natural skill in his craft is William Eggleston. He was a pioneer in bring coloured photography into the art world and was greatly misunderstood for many years. I find him an inspiration as he had/has such a great self belief. He captures of the mundane and every day banal environment in which he lives. Here's a documentary about the legend himself.
( The documentary is in segments so i put it into a playlist)
William Eggleston - Imagine

so lately I have been messing around with how we think about space differently when its filled, this came from building the smoke box. I thought it was really interesting how the smoke just expanded and took up the space leaving it the same but changing it completely. looking straight down on the tower you're met with a solid block of red but from the side it's just a series of intertwining threads. I ended up getting some interesting images out of it
these are pictures of the work at the beginning

I found this image quite interesting

these images are also very interesting, I think they create great depth and almost a sense of danger

The shadows cast by the tower were pretty cool almost like that of a scene from an old horror film

these are two of my favorite images from it, I'm not entirely sure why I just think they're a little mesmerizing
